USBA FAQ’S

Why play USBA?

USBA is a “basketball” only organization. Our staff is one of the best in the country, which includes many collegiate and professional coaches. We have no hidden membership fees, additional insurance cost, or any other hidden fees. Our main priority is to see that young men and women, between the ages of 9-17+, get a chance to play basketball in a fun, highly competitive, rewarding, and positive environment.

How do I find out about USBA tournaments in my area?

Do all of our team players have to be from our area?

No. Players can be from anywhere as long as the coach chooses that player to participate with his/her team.

How many teams per age group does it take to actually have the tournament?

USBA will proceed with any tournament if a minimum of three (3) teams enter in that age group. NOTE: If, by only having three teams enter, a team does not want to participate, the team that drops out after the deadline will lose both the entry fee.  The USBA membership fee of $35 is non-refundable.

Will my team be permitted to add additional players to our team for the National Tournament? 

Yes!

Who qualifies as a “grade exception” player?

How many “grade exception” players are allowed on a team?

Ages 9-14 can have up to three grade exceptions.

Ages 15 & up can have unlimited grade exceptions.

Why are tournament entry fees different from location to location?

USBA uses many facilities throughout the country. Costs for each facility are different in each area of the country. Referee salaries, and administrative salaries also differ in different parts of the country. We have to adjust our entry fees accordingly.

How many referees will we have for each game?

Two (2).

How do we qualify for the regional and National Tournaments? 

In order to qualify for Nationals each boy's team must have played in at least two (2) USBA regular season tournaments or participated in an event that is an automatic berth tournament.  We do accept at-large bids to nationals as well.

Girl's teams must participate in at least (0) USBA regular season tournament to qualify for Nationals.

Where do I stay during my tournament event?

Accommodations are the responsibility of each team. Participating hotels will offer a discounted USBA rate.  Please see our Reg. season lodging link on the left side to find all participating hotels across the nation.

When will I know my schedule for the tournament I’m participating in?

Tournament schedules will be posted at www.usbahoops.com normally by the Tuesday (or 3 days) prior to the Friday tournament.   If your tournament does not begin on Friday it will be posted at least 3 days prior to the tournament.

Are awards presented at the tournament?

Yes. Each member (players & coaches) of the tournament champion and runner-up of each tournament will receive one of the following:  medallion, trophy or t-shirt.  The winner will also receive a tournament champion trophy.

Can I volunteer to help at a USBA event?
